“I Joined the company as a Mobile Service Engineer which was then a small organisation with 7 or 8 locally based Service Engineers. To begin with I was working with Miles who had been with AGM since the beginning. In those days we had no car phone or sat nav and were given a work programme on paper, collected every day from Wivenhoe where the office and works were based. Driving to London or the home counties using the A to Z map which became your bible. The type of work ranging from routine maintenance, break downs, commissioning’s to remedial works and installations. I also spent quite some time in the office organising and liaising with all aspects of the company procedures.
Work today as a Service Engineer has become more sophisticated with modern communication always to hand being able to locate sites with precision and ease, looking up technical information and downloading a work programme anywhere. Also the work procedures are ever more complicated with increased requirements for site access (Work Permits, Risk Assessments & Method Statements) being crucial on almost all site’s.
I still enjoy the variety of work, the sites and locations we find ourselves in from the most iconic buildings through to the historical knowing we have a small part in keeping them functioning. I also appreciate being part of a progressive company which has kept a good reputation all the years I have worked for it.”
